White’s Corner
These restored, heritage cottages include a host of modern comforts, full kitchens, and space for either six or twelve, at the gateway to the Highlands of Tasmania.
The Cottage, with two bedrooms, sleeps six while The Storekeeper’s House, with four bedrooms, can accommodate twelve, using combinations of queen, double, single and sofa beds, as well as a folding cot. The kitchens have an oven, stove top, refrigerator, microwave and plenty of extras such as crockery and glasses, there is access to a shared laundry, and both properties have wireless internet, two televisions each and in-house films.
Other features common to both of the White’s Corner houses are a bathroom with a shower, with The Storekeeper’s House also containing an antique claw-foot bath, electric heating (plus wood heating in Storekeeper’s), excellent linens, electric blankets, the necessary tools for making tea and coffee, ironing equipment, a CD player, an alarm clock and a lounge. Both have sitting areas, a separate upstairs one in Storekeeper’s and part of a bedroom in The Cottage. The latter has a slightly larger dining area.
You will find a mixture of old-fashioned and modern furniture in both. The more decorative items tend to be the picture-postcard type while the functional ones, such as the leather reclining chairs, look more twenty-first century. White’s Corner has immaculately kept grounds, and you are welcome to explore the former sites of the stables, tannery, butcher and other activities which were going on here back in the nineteenth century.
The town square of Bothwell is next door, and the place has a distinct Scottish theme. As well as a whiskey distillery, you can find a golf course – the oldest in Australia in fact – and the Australian Golfing Museum. There are premier trout fishing lakes nearby, and this rural paradise is a mere hour from Hobart, and only about three quarters of an hour from the famous MONA (Museum of Old and New Art).
Situated in the suburbs, this cottage is within 1 mi (2 km) of Australasian Golf Museum and Ratho Farm Golf. Nant Distillery is 2.6 mi (4.2 km) away.
This cottage features laundry facilities, express check-in, and a garden. Self parking is free. Other amenities include a picnic area.
All accommodations are individually decorated and offer iPod docks and hair dryers. Guests can enjoy deep soaking tubs, and other standard amenities include kitchens with refrigerators and stovetops.
