Day 1 - Arrive in Hobart

Hobart is the capital of Tasmania and situated on the Derwent River. It’s also home to the finish line of one of the world’s greatest blue water ocean races, The Rolex Sydney to Hobart.

Day 2 - Explore Hobart

Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is located 4 minutes by ferry from vibrant capital city of Tasmania, Hobart.

Day 3 - Hobart to Port Arthur

Port Arthur is a major tourist attraction where visitors can explore the haunting landscape and well-preserved, convict-built structures.

Day 4 - Port Arthur to Freycinet

The Friendly Beaches form part of Freycinet National Park. Fishing, walking and surfing are popular in this area.

Day 5 - Explore Freycinet

Visit secluded Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park and take a walk up to lookout for panoramic views. It is recognized around the world as one of Tasmania’s iconic destinations.

Day 6 - Freycinet to Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain is a part of – Lake St. Clair National Park – one of 5 parks that form the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage.

Day 7 - Cradle Mountain to Strahan

Strahan is a harbour-side village with a dark and fascinating convict past set on the edge of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

Day 8 - Gordon River Cruise

Gordon River Cruises is an award winning wilderness experience in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

Day 9 - Drive to Hobart

Drive to Hobart via Queenstown, Derwent Bridge, and Mt Field National Park— depart from Hobart later in the day.

9 days - Self-Drive Tour Package

Day 1 - Arrive in Hobart

Arrive at Hobart Airport, collect your rental car, and drive into the city. If it’s a Saturday, don’t miss the bustling Salamanca Market. In the afternoon, take a scenic drive up Mount Wellington for sweeping views across southern Tasmania.

Accommodation: 3.5 Star – Best Western Hobart – King Balcony Room, Hobart, or similar

Optional Accommodation Upgrade: 4 star – The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel, Hobart, or similar

Day 2 - Explore Hobart

As an optional add-on, catch a ferry to MONA (Museum of New and Old Art). The Museum is truly spectacular. Stay for lunch among the vines at the adjacent Moorilla Estate. Take the ferry back to Brooke Street Pier at Salamanca Place.

Day 3 - Hobart to Port Arthur

Drive to the beautiful Tasman Peninsula and Port Arthur. The sea cliffs at Eaglehawk Neck are truly amazing. Visit Port Arthur Historic Site as an optional add-on, and discover the real story of Australia’s convict past.

Accommodation: 3 Star – Port Arthur Motor Inn – Standard Room, Port Arthur, or similar

Optional Accommodation Upgrade: 4 star – Stewarts Bay Lodge, Port Arthur, or similar

Day 4 - Port Arthur to Freycinet

Travel along Tasmania’s sunny east-coast to the Freycinet Peninsula. Stop at the many attractions underway and make this journey at your own pace. Explore Friendly Beaches and Freycinet National Park.

Accommodation: 3 Star – Beachfront Bicheno – Poolside Room, Bicheno, or similar

Optional Accommodation Upgrade: 4 star – Freycinet Lodge, Coles Bay, or similar

Day 5 - Explore Freycinet

Take the optional cruise to Wineglass Bay during the morning. Spend the afternoon climbing to the the lookout for spectacular views over Wineglass Bay and the Tasman Sea. Drop in and sample the oysters at the Freycinet Marine Farm.

Accommodation: 3 Star – Beachfront Bicheno – Poolside Room, Bicheno, or similar

Day 6 - Freycinet to Cradle Mountain

Travel from the Freycinet Peninsula via St. Mary’s inland and follow the Heritage highway through to Launceston. Continue on to the UNESCO World Heritage area of Cradle Mountain. At night, join in an optional informative feeding tour at the local Tasmanian Devil’s sanctuary.

Day 7 - Cradle Mountain to Strahan

Morning walks at Cradle Mountain, before heading west to the coastal town of Strahan. Stop at Henty Dunes to experience the sand and the Ocean Beach. This is the west coast at its best.

Day 8 - Gordon River Cruise

Enjoy the Gordon River Wilderness Cruise with lunch included. Afterwards, visit Hogarth Falls and nearby surrounds.

Day 9 - Drive to Hobart

Drive to Hobart through the forests and stop at Queenstown to experience an 1800’s mining town. Continue on to Derwent Bridge (stop at the Derwent Bridge for lunch), see the Wall in the Wilderness and then follow the Derwent Valley into Hobart. Stop off at Mt. Field National Park for a walk in the rainforest out to Russell Falls. Please note, departure flight is not recommended before 5pm.
