Explorers Lodge
Either bed-and-breakfast rooms or a self-catering apartment are on offer at Explorers Lodge, with modern facilities in your room and a more old-world feel to the shared spaces, and the combination of its quiet setting and the fact that there are only four rooms means you are not likely to be disturbed by excess noise.
Each bedroom at Explorers Lodge has an en-suite bathroom, a king or queen bed, free wireless and wired internet, towels, toiletries and premium-quality bedding and a television. Guests have a marvellous cooked breakfast in the morning in the B&B’s dining room, and the use of the private sun room and lounge, which has a library and a fireplace.
The self-catering apartment also includes a kitchenette, a small lounge and a dining area, and has a supply of breakfast ingredients which are replenished every day. As well as laundry facilities, there is a private balcony with views of the attractive garden and the distant hills, complete with a barbecue set.
There is free parking at Explorers Lodge and you are also welcome to explore the gardens, which are well looked after by your friendly hosts. The river is not far off, and the neighbourhood the B&B is located in is fairly quiet so you can be sure of a relaxing stay.
There are plenty of things to see locally, such as a number of antique shops (something Tasmania is famous for), the Agrarian Kitchen Eatery and Cooking School, the historic buildings of Willow Court and, if you feel like going for a stroll, there is the Derwent River promenade. Canoeing on the river is also quite popular, and a short drive will take you to all the attractions of Hobart.
Located in New Norfolk, this bed & breakfast is within 2 mi (3 km) of Anglican Church of St Matthew, Derwent Cliffs State Reserve, and Rosedown Gardens. Willow Court Asylum and Betty King’s Grave are also within 3 mi (5 km).
