Colonial Cottages of Ross
In a charming village and a romantic, Georgian cottage, a relaxing, self-catering, countryside stay could not have a better base than this.
Colonial Cottages of Ross have three properties, sleeping up to two, six or eight, all dating from the eighteen thirties but all equipped with modern comforts as well as old-fashioned, such as the romantic open fireplace of Cupid’s Nest. As well as a queen, four-poster, bed, an en-suite bathroom, kitchenette, washing machine (and clothes line in the garden), fridge, microwave oven, electric heaters, tea and coffee-making equipment and free wireless internet complement the antique furnishings and the exposed sandstone walls.
In the larger two, the décor is a little more modern (more plaster on the walls, for example), and extras such as a television, DVD and CD player, clock radio, iron, ironing board, full kitchen, complimentary port and after-dinner mints, insect screens, electric blankets, guest-controlled electric heating and private access to Ross river bank are available. These larger properties are suited to children and it is worth noting that the eight-person option is a combination of the two adjoining cottages via an interconnecting door. Parking is free, and the pet-free cottages have a no-smoking policy indoors.
Colonial Cottages of Ross are a short stroll from the centre of what has been called the most beautiful town in Tasmania, with a friendly community and a number of gift and antique shops. There are bakeries, takeaways and tea shops, plus you can get counter meals from the nearby Man O Ross Hotel from midday to the evening.
The local Tasmanian Wool Centre has both a museum of the wool industry and fine wool items for sale. The area’s most famous icon is the Ross Bridge, and you may be interested in the interpretive displays at the site of the Ross Female Factory, where female convicts and their babies were housed long ago in the days of transportation. Then there is St. John’s Anglican church, a convenient post office and, if you are stumped for ideas, Ross Visitor Information Centre is a couple of minutes away on foot.
Situated in Ross, this cottage is within a 10-minute walk of Ross Visitor Information Centre, Tasmanian Wool Centre, and Ross Bridge. Ross Female Factory is 0.5 mi (0.8 km) away.
This cottage features a garden, a picnic area, and free self parking. WiFi in public areas is free.
All 6 accommodations offer free WiFi, microwaves, and coffee makers.
