Day 1 - Arrive in Launceston

Arrive in Launceston and collect your rental car at the airport. Drive into the city to explore Cataract Gorge and the vibrant downtown area.

Accommodation: 3 Star – Elphin Motel & Serviced Apartments – Queen Motel Room, Launceston, or similar

Day 2 - Launceston to Cradle Mountain

Take in the west of the Tamar Valley with its boutique wineries, beautiful scenery and the Platypus House at Beauty Point. Cut through from Exeter to Deloraine and then to Elizabeth Town to visit the Ashgrove Cheese outlet then drive onto the Alpine Plateau of Cradle Mountain.

At night, join an informative feeding tour at the local Tasmanian Devil’s sanctuary

Day 3 - Cradle Mountain to Strahan

Morning walks at Cradle Mountain, before heading west to the coastal town of Strahan. Stop at Henty Dunes to experience the sand and the Ocean Beach. This is the west coast at its best.

Day 4 - Gordon River Cruise

Join the Gordon River Cruise for a journey into the wilderness, then spend the afternoon exploring one of Strahan’s forest walking trails or simply relaxing by the harbour.

Day 5 - Strahan to Hobart

The west coast was built on timber cutting and mining. Drive to Hobart through the forests and stop at Queenstown to experience an 1800’s mining town. Continue on to Derwent Bridge (stop at the Derwent Bridge for lunch), see the Wall in the Wilderness and then follow the Derwent Valley into Hobart. Stop off at Mt. Field National Park for a walk in the rainforest out to Russell Falls.

Day 6 - Explore Hobart

If it is a Saturday the Salamanca Market will be taking place. During the afternoon, drive to the top of Mount Wellington for spectacular views over all of southern Tasmania.

Optional Experience: Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) with Return Standard Ferry

Day 7 - Hobart to Freycinet

Spend the morning exploring the historic village of Richmond, then travel up the east coast via Buckland, with a stop to see the historic church, and continue through Orford to Freycinet. Along the way, visit Spiky Bridge for a glimpse of local history and Freycinet Vineyard for wine tasting and light bites.

Day 8 - Explore Freycinet

As an optional add-on take the cruise to Wineglass Bay during the morning. Spend the afternoon climbing the path to the lookout for spectacular views over Wineglass Bay and the Tasman Sea. Drop in and sample the oysters at the Freycinet Marine Farm.

Day 9 - Depart from Launceston or Hobart

Drive north up the picturesque east coast, roughly 3 hours to Launceston airport. Or depart from Hobart airport, after driving south from Freycinet.

Drop off rental car at airport.
