8 Day Tasmania Tour In Circle

Arrive today and travel into Hobart city at your leisure. Your accommodation for tonight is booked and waiting at the elegant, 4-star Movenpick Hotel centrally located and walking distance to the cities restaurant and shopping areas. Check-in is anytime from 2pm onwards.

This morning enjoy a guided tour of Hobart city. Explore the Hobart waterfront area before heading to the summit of Mt Wellington (1270m), boasting spectacular panoramic views in every direction. Further exploration through town sees us take in the historic Female Factory & Cascade Brewery, while viewing many of Australia’s oldest convict-built structures. Heading east, we meander into the Coal River Valley, one of Tasmania’s premier wine regions. Naturally, we will lunch at a lovely, family-operated winery, sampling some of Tassie’s best wine & local produce before continuing on to the historic township of Richmond.

We will see the beautiful stone arch construction of the Richmond Bridge, built by convicts in 1823—Australia’s oldest bridge still in operation. Much to everyone’s delight, we stop at the boutique Federation Chocolate factory just outside Richmond for some sampling of fresh, handmade chocolates. The flavours change depending on the season and the produce available.

It’s then on to the Tasman Peninsula for our first taste of the east coast. The Tasman National Park boasts towering sea cliffs and a wealth of cultural history as we venture south. A beautiful lookout point over Pirates Bay provides the ideal location for a scenic mid-afternoon tea/coffee break.

Learn about Eaglehawk Neck—the site of the infamous Dogline—as we cross onto the Tasman Peninsula. We then explore some of nature’s true wonders with short scenic walks at Tasman’s Arch & Devils Kitchen. Continuing on, we overnight right on the cusp of the Port Arthur World Heritage Historic Site.

This morning enjoy a 2.5-hour guided tour of the Port Arthur Historic Site, exploring key buildings and hearing powerful stories of convict life, including Point Puer, the Isle of the Dead, the Silent Prison, and some of its most notorious inmates. We also visit the memorial commemorating the tragic events of 1996. A 30-minute harbour cruise offers sweeping views of the site, including the boat building yard and the harbour entrance to the Tasman Sea.

Continue to the colourful Port Arthur Lavender Farm before lunch at the award-winning Bangor Vineyard. Travel north along Tasmania’s east coast with a stop at Raspins Beach for a sandy stroll and views across to Maria Island. Visit the convict-built Spikey Bridge and enjoy the coastline at Spikey Beach over tea, coffee, and biscuits. Pass through Swansea and Great Oyster Bay before arriving in Bicheno for the evening, with an optional opportunity to see fairy penguins coming ashore at dusk.

Starting with the amazing Blow Hole in Bicheno, we then visit the multi-award-winning East Coast Natureworld wildlife park—often a highlight for many guests. See native animals up close, including kangaroos, wombats, quolls, white wallabies, echidnas, and of course Tasmanian devils. Experience a 20-minute devil feeding presentation and watch them in full action—an unforgettable and interactive morning.

Travel along Tasmania’s most scenic coastal road to the stunning Bay of Fires. At Binalong Bay, stroll white sandy beaches and sample fresh oysters from Lease 65 Oyster Farm. Continue to the Pyengana Dairy for delicious cheese tastings before journeying through ancient Myrtle rainforest and across the Blue Tiers.

Enjoy a coffee break at Legerwood among the beautifully carved memorial trees before a scenic drive into Launceston. Tonight we stay in the heart of the city, just a short walk from the main restaurant strip, and will share our favourite dining recommendations on arrival.

Launceston, Australia’s third oldest capital city, is well worth a morning of exploration. See the Kings Bridge, City Park, and many classic heritage-listed buildings. We’ll also enjoy our personal favourite Launceston attraction—a 40-minute stroll through the beautiful Cataract Gorge Reserve.

Heading west into the Meander Valley, our lunch stop is a hidden gem in the forest at 41° South Salmon Farm. Learn how they sustainably and responsibly farm Atlantic salmon on site as we take a short tour of the property. Try locally made ice cream and honey, with up to 50 flavours on offer at the renowned Melita Honey Farm in Chudleigh. Learn about Tasmania’s oldest and largest leatherwood honey producer, R. Stephens Honey in Mole Creek. A guided tour of the stunning Marakoopa Caves follows—these ancient limestone caves feature impressive formations and are also home to a resident population of glow worms.

This afternoon we journey onto the Central Highlands plateau and into the Cradle Mountain area. As we ascend, the scenery dramatically transforms into a landscape unlike anything seen so far. Enjoy wildlife and wombat spotting at dusk—a true highlight for visiting guests. Tonight we stay at the luxurious 4-star Cradle Mountain Hotel.

Start the day with a buffet breakfast at Cradle Mountain Hotel before exploring the breathtaking Cradle Mountain–Lake St Clair National Park, including Dove Lake for iconic mountain views, Glacier Rock, the Enchanted Walk, and Pencil Pine Falls. Visit historic Waldheim Cottage, home of pioneer Gustav Weindorfer.

Travel west through Lake Rosebery and historic mining towns such as Zeehan, stopping at a stunning West Coast lookout over the Southern Ocean. Arrive in Strahan to explore Regatta Point, a working sawmill, and the award-winning Woodcraft Centre. Continue to Queenstown for your evening accommodation, where dinner is included.

Queenstown, a historic mining town, is surrounded by richly coloured mineral mountains. Take in panoramic views from the Iron Blow Lookout atop Mt Lyell before a scenic rainforest drive through the World Heritage–listed Franklin–Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.

Stop for a short walk to Nelson Falls, one of Tasmania’s most photogenic waterfalls, then continue through pristine valleys, forests, and rivers to Mt Arrowsmith near the geographical centre of Tasmania, with sweeping views of button grass plains, eucalyptus forests, mountains, and lakes. At Derwent Bridge, visit Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest freshwater lake and the source of the Derwent River. Continue to “The Wall in the Wilderness,” an impressive hand-carved Huon pine artwork by Greg Duncan depicting Tasmanian history.

After lunch, explore Tasmania’s hydro-electric heritage in Tarraleah before travelling into the Derwent Valley. Pause for a coffee at Lake Meadowbank, then detour into Mt Field National Park to see the stunning three-tiered Russell Falls. The final journey follows the Derwent River back to Hobart, concluding your adventure with drop-off at the Mövenpick Hotel for a final night of relaxation.

This morning marks the conclusion of our touring adventures. Breakfast is included and your package officially concludes with hotel check-out by 10 am.
