Lumera Chalets
Off the grid and close to nature, with the wildlife roaming freely, here is a peaceful, laid-back holiday experience with a difference, all with a carbon-neutral footprint.
The three chalets each have a queen bed complete with linens and a pillow-top mattress, an en-suite bathroom with plenty of space, a shower, free toiletries and towels provided, a kitchen with a cooker, a microwave oven, a kettle, a fridge, a coffee maker, plenty of cookware and utensils and you even get a mini-bar as well!
Solar panels provide the bulk of the 12-volt current at Lumera Chalets, and you will be provided with an inverter so that you can charge a mobile phone or laptop. Hair dryers won’t work here, but the LCD television in your open-plan living area does. The interior is furnished in wonderful timber and is heated with a lovely pot-belly stove. There is bottled water ready for your arrival, and free parking, a furnished balcony, barbecue equipment and a picnic area. There are also designated smoking zones.
Lumera Chalets also provides a sanctuary for rescued animals such as wallabies and wombats, so no pets are permitted and the property is only for adults. You are welcome to interact with the animals here, and the venue prides itself on its eco-friendly credentials. A local general store, Hilly’s IGA, is a good place for groceries including free-range chickens and ready-made salads, or if you prefer a more traditional dining experience there is St Mary’s Hotel with good-quality food, as well as a number of cafes such as the Purple Possum.
As well as being right by the beach, with windsurfing and boat tours available nearby, there are opportunities for golf in the area as well as cross-country and downhill skiing in winter months. Scuba diving, hiking and night-time tours to see the penguins are possible. The chalets are located within the entrance to Freycinet National Park, and are not far from the spectacular Bay of Fires and Douglas Apsley National Park.
Situated by the ocean, this cabin is 0.6 mi (1 km) from St Patricks Head State Reserve and within 12 mi (20 km) of Nicholas Range Regional Reserve and Douglas-Apsley National Park. Little Beach State Reserve and Bay of Fires are also within 32 mi (52 km).
Tour/ticket assistance, a garden, and barbecue grills are available at this cabin. Self parking is free. Other amenities include a picnic area and a lobby fireplace.
The cabin boasts a fireplace and offers a kitchen and a furnished balcony. Comforts include a pillowtop bed and premium bedding, and guests will also find conveniences like a dining area and a sitting area.
