Weldborough Hotel
Good value for money here, in a friendly pub atmosphere with basic but comfortable rooms, or you can make use of the bush camp ground instead.
Rooms accommodate between two and four, with a pillow-top queen bed and in some cases bunks. At the budget end there are bunk rooms with space for up to four, and cabins for a maximum of five. Cribs are available, parking is free, and the bathroom facilities (some of which are shared) include showers, free toiletries and the use of a hair dryer. Weldborough Hotel also provides a ‘camp anywhere’ campsite which permits pets on the condition they are kept on a leash. Toilets and hot showers are included in the fee, and there is a limited amount of seating. Give a shout if you need an iron or board, there will be one available from the hotel.
The location is not one that includes television or wi-fi, but it does allow for a more traditional holiday experience, with food available from the hotel’s pub (lunch and dinner, as well as a children’s menu) and which you can enjoy in the beer garden, along with a selection of card and board games. Continental breakfast is available for a fee, and the staff can prepare packed lunches if you book them in advance.
Weldborough Hotel is a short drive from Little Blue Lake, Derby Tin Mine Centre and St. Columbia Falls, with Mathinna Falls a little over an hour and a half away. There are mountain-biking opportunities in the region, some extensive bush-walking tracks, including the Blue Tier Descent which ends at the hotel, or you can even hire the equipment to go fossicking for gems.
Situated in Weldborough, this hotel is 2.6 mi (4.2 km) from Weldborough Pass State Reserve and within 6 mi (10 km) of Blue Tier Regional Reserve and Frome Regional Reserve. Waratah Creek Regional Reserve and North George River Conservation Area are also within 12 mi (20 km).
Along with a restaurant, this smoke-free hotel has a bar/lounge and a garden. Free continental breakfast, free WiFi in public areas, and free self parking are also provided. Other amenities include a picnic area and a lobby fireplace.
I’m a cycle tourist and loved this place. Nice camping spot and amenities. Great pub with great beers (especially milk stout) and steak sandwich. Very hospitable manager and staff making you feel at home. Hot showers. Great refurbishment with light filled rooms and cosy feel.
Very peaceful and quiet area with a popular mountain bike trail throughout the surrounding bush. There are quite a few tracks ranging from very easy to advanced. Plenty of room on the pubs grounds for camping etc. The pub itself is very old and has a beautiful beer garden to enjoy the many craft beers and fine Tassie wines. Excellent food too, and nice staff. I recommend the steak sandwich. It was enormous and the best in Tassie beef.
