Ratho Farm
Australia’s oldest golf course offers you B&B accommodation in a quiet and beautiful location where you can sit in front of a log fire or watch television, enjoy a barbecue in the great wide open air or catch up online with the wireless internet service, all in the supreme comfort of your boutique room, combining the farm’s old carpentry with today’s furniture. Watch the passing peacocks and platypuses, or gather in the common area of the Cookhouse Kitchen, especially enjoyable if you want to book the whole complex.
Each of the rooms, some of which can be connected with adjoining doors, has an en-suite bathroom, a fridge and, so you don’t have to traipse down to the kitchen for it, all the right gadgets for making yourself a nice cup of tea or coffee. While the buildings are converted from the original farm outhouses, your furniture is modern and to the standard of comfort you can expect of twenty-first-century luxury. There is ironing and hair-drying equipment, facilities for young children such as cribs, and absolutely masses of parking space, so feel free to come in a truck or two.
The previously mentioned Cookhouse Kitchen has stove tops, a fridge, a microwave oven as well as a more traditional oven. Guests can also make use of laundry equipment, luggage-storage facilities, and even this far out there is wireless internet. The huge glass-paned restaurant, complete with real fireplace, makes Ratho Farm ideal for functions, be they business-oriented or wedding parties, and the grounds are excellent for relaxation or having a barbecue, for which the necessary equipment is also on hand.
A three-course dinner, featuring Tasmanian fish or meat, as well as a vegetarian option, is available from Ratho Farm’s own restaurant, which also serves breakfast, and it is possible to arrange for a gluten-free or dairy-free dish in advance. It is also possible to eat out at the nearby Bothwell’s Castle Hotel, Bothwell Grange and the Castle Hotel, the latter two by prior appointment.
The golf and the fishing are the really big draws here, but that is not all to Ratho Farm. Waddamara Power Station Museum and Nant Distillery are a short drive away, and St. Peter’s Church is an interesting place to visit. A number of walking tours are possible locally, or you could go horse riding, check out the local whisky distilleries and there are even helicopter transfers available. Above all, it’s the wide canopy of stars on a clear night and the sheer unspoilt beauty of this part of Tasmania that will make you reluctant to leave at the end of your stay.
Situated in Bothwell, this golf bed & breakfast is within 1 mi (2 km) of Ratho Farm Golf and Australasian Golf Museum. Nant Distillery and Den Hill Conservation Area are also within 9 mi (15 km).
Along with a golf course, this bed & breakfast has a restaurant and a bar/lounge. Free WiFi in public areas and free self parking are also provided. Additionally, coffee/tea in a common area, conference space, and concierge services are onsite.
