You should take a look at the continental-breakfast buffet at Hotel Launceston – it really is something else! It’s a far cry from the lonely, single-portion cereal packet and sorry-looking bread roll off lesser venues. Alternatively, for a surcharge there is a cooked-to-order breakfast available, so you are spoilt for choice.

While on the subject of food and drink, the hotel has its own Titanium Bar and Bistro, which is popular not only with the guests but many residents of Launceston itself. You can dine in a pleasant, family-friendly atmosphere and the a la carte menu makes the best use of local Tasmanian produce. The bar, which also doubles up as a cafe for the teetotallers among you, has a wide range of wines, beers, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks, plus a happy hour on Monday to Saturday.

As Hotel Launceston is right in the centre, you are surrounded by restaurants, cafes and bars, plus it’s only a few minutes’ walk to City Park, the National Automobile Museum, Princess Theatre and Launceston Aquatic Centre (with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, inflatables and swimming lessons for children). If you head in a westerly direction, the incredible Cataract Gorge can be found, complete with chairlift, swimming beach, restaurant and garden. If you keep going westward, there is a scenic walking route called Duck Reach which will take about an hour and a half to complete – great if you fancy a long, afternoon stroll.
