Hobart Central YHA
Right in the centre of Hobart, whether you want a room of your own or are happy to sleep in a dormitory, you can expect friendly service and all the practical matters the Youth Hostels Association is renowned for, including a kitchen and even a bar.
There are private rooms and shared dorms at Hobart Central YHA. Linens are all provided and there is a bed light for each guest, so you can carry on reading when others are asleep without rubbing any other guests up the wrong way. There is free wireless internet, heating and, with the exception of the 4-Share female dorm, your own locker so you have peace and mind when it comes to your valuables.
Some of the private rooms have en-suite bathrooms, a television, a fridge and equipment for making tea and coffee. The sleeping arrangements here are a mixture of bunk beds, doubles and singles, while all rooms have blackout blinds fitted to the windows. The communal kitchen is at the disposal of all staying at the hostel, with an oven, a four-hob stove, a microwave and a fridge among other equipment, and so is the reading room, a lounge with a television and facilities for accessing the internet.
Hobart Central YHA is accessible for disabled guests, and the friendly front-desk staff can not only assist with suggestions on places to visit but also can directly book tickets for one of Hobart’s best attractions: MONA – the Museum of Old and New Art.
On top of all that, there is a bar on the premises and you are staying at the most centrally-located hostel in the city, just one block from the waterfront. Trips in Hobart and to Port Arthur and Wineglass Bay can be booked directly, as can a five-day backpacker tour of Tasmania itself. If you are looking for things to see and do here in town, the Botanical Garden should be high on your to-do list, along with a trip on the Derwent River, the famous Salamanca Market and, for the trekkers among you, a wide variety of nearby bush-walking tracks. Naturally, you don’t have to search far in order to find plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops for just about all of your needs.
Located in Hobart Central Business District, this hostel is steps from Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Constitution Dock. Salamanca Market and Salamanca Place are also within 15 minutes.
This smoke-free hostel features a microwave in a common area, a refrigerator in a common area, and laundry facilities. WiFi in public areas is free. Other amenities include a TV in a common area and multilingual staff.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly accommodating staff.
Great room. I'm not a "Youth" but I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. A good way to start and end a tour of this beautiful island.
Great location and superb staff. Nothing was too much trouble and this has been my experience over the last seventeen years staying at the hostel.
