Heimat Chalets
Two chalets on a huge farm, and two powered sites, next to a working farm with a range of friendly animals to meet, plus acres of space, including a children’s play area, make this a perfect base for exploring or a rural getaway for families who would like to see the beauty of Tasmania’s countryside.
There is no shortage of parking here – in fact you can even bring your RV without any difficulty (there are two powered sites if that is how you prefer to stay). The chalets themselves are furnished with either a queen bed, three single beds and a cot (the Family Chalet) or a king-size and a queen-size bed in the Two-Bedroom Chalet. Blackout blinds, air conditioning, a mini-bar, barbecue facilities in a spacious garden, a television, a refrigerator, a coffee maker and use of laundry facilities are included. Your private bathroom has a shower, a hair dryer and free toiletries.
Guests at Heimat Chalets may additionally have full run of the garden area, and there are organised activities for children which are free of charge. Mountain biking is possible on site, plus there are hiking trails that start on the property. As this is farm-stay accommodation, you will find it possible to get up close and personal with the alpacas, ponies, highland cows, sheep and even a miniature donkey. They do not wander around your living space, but you are welcome to join the owners when it comes to their daily feed.
The views are amazing, across the rolling hills, farmland and bushland. The local dam is a popular place for fishing during the season, while closer to your chalet is a playground where the kids can let off steam. The shared barbecue hut has a rustic feel to it, and is a great place for a wood-fired steak or sausage, or two. For those preferring to use the powered sites, you have the use of a private shower and toilet, as well as the spacious camp kitchen.
You would have every reason for spending your entire holiday on the 100 acres of Heimat Chalets, but it also makes a perfect base for day trips out to Mount Wellington, Derwent Entertainment Centre and Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. A short walk can take you to Rosedown Gardens, and New Norfolk, Tasmania’s antique capital, is also not far away.
Situated in the mountains, this guesthouse is 5.1 mi (8.3 km) from Rosedown Gardens and within 32 mi (52 km) of Museum of Old and New Art and Salamanca Market.
Along with a restaurant, this guesthouse has laundry facilities and a library. Self parking is free. Additionally, a garden, barbecue grills, and a picnic area are onsite.
Weekly housekeeping is available.
We loved our time at the chalet albeit only a short overnight stay. Katy the owner was welcoming and generous with her time. I would recommend Heimat chalets to families with young children. The toys in the room, playground and animal feeding were wonderful for our two young daughters after a number of days staying in a camper van.
