Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Welcome North West Tasmania – Majestic, Wild, Spectacular! We transport you from Burnie Airport to Smithton
Stop At: Smithton, Smithton, Tasmania
North West Tasmania Tour’s driver and guide will meet you at *Burnie Airport and transport you in comfort to The Postmaster Inn Bed and Breakfast in the township of Smithton – gateway to the North West Tasmania and your base for the next 5 – 7 days. After a tour briefing and the chance to meet your fellow tour participants you will have time to explore Smithton before your evening meal and a peaceful night’s sleep in your comfortable loggings. In the morning you will embark on an experience like no other, with transformative sights, tastes, learnings and sensations within a small group setting. We deliver a world-class agenda of experiences designed to connect you to one of the most beautiful natural regions in the world.
Our expert guides provide informative and interactive tours whilst you explore our unique terrain in complete safety with everything taken care of.

Day 2: Introduction to the wonders of North West Tasmania we visit Table Cape, Boat Harbour Beach, Dip Falls and The BIG Tree
Stop At: Boat Harbour Beach, Boat Harbour Beach, Tasmania
We journey to the magnificent plateau of Table Cape, a remarkable natural wonder that offers spectacular views of the coastline, at the top of a 12-million-year-old volcano you’ll reach a platform where on a clear day you can see over 175 kms away. Then it’s a short trip to the stunning Boat Harbour one of Tasmania’s top 2 beaches, stroll along the beach, take a dip in the ocean or enjoy a cuppa at the Café.
We then continue onto Mawbanna and enjoy a delicious lunch and guided tour of Blue Hills Honey where apiarists harvest honey containing some of the highest antioxidants in the world.
Then we take a short ride to Dip Falls, a two-tiered structure that cascades over a unique cubic-basalt rock formation making for a thrilling viewing experience. A short walk will bring you to The Big Tree, the circumference of this old timer is nearly 17 metres and its estimated age is 400 years. Spend a few moments at the foot of this majestic beauty and receive its gifts of contemplation and peace

Day 3: Indigenous Cultural Heritage Day – A Special Day with Indigenous People
Stop At: Marrawah, Marrawah, Tasmania
See North West Tasmania through Aboriginal eyes. Today’s journey is led by Aboriginal Elders who will enrich your understanding of the land’s original custodians-the peerapper, pennemuker, pendowte tommeginne paraloihener peternidic and tarkiner. Shared through ceremony, storytelling, and experience of sacred sites including petroglyphs, middens and former homes.
We start at the hub of the Circular Head Aboriginal Community, Trawmanna where we are welcomed to country with a traditional smoking ceremony.
We then travel to Marrawah along a dramatic rugged coastline that is uniquely North West Tasmania. We visit culturally significant sites at West Point/ Green Point and /Sundown Point. It is here at these sacred sites at the behest of the Elders… we evoke the spirit of the ancestors to impart their legend, and in the deep quiet when you are very still, the ancients may whisper to you……this is our untold story.
Many have described this day as nothing short of transformative.

Day 4: Stanley, Tasmania’s Top Tourist Town and a guided tour of Highfield Historic Site
Stop At: Stanley, Stanley, Tasmania
We start the day by visiting La Cantara Cheese, makers of fine Artisan cheeses and a state-of-the-art robotic diary in Smithton for a tour and tasting. Then its onto to Tasmania’s top tourist town – Stanley where we take a short but breathtakingly beautiful ride up the hill to the infamous Highfield Historic Site, the original home and headquarters of the Van Diemen’s Land Co. for a guided tour and scrumptious lunch in the estates Rustic Barn. After lunch we spend the afternoon in Stanley, a colourful fishing village with stunning views and beautifully preserved heritage buildings and gardens, nestled around the iconic Nut, an extinct volcanic plug that dominates the landscape where you can take the chair lift to the top or for the more adventurous walk the steep path. Explore the many craft shops and galleries, stroll along the beach or if you appreciate a fine whiskey or other quality spirits, call into The Angels Share or try Tasmania Wine and Food for pre-dinner tapas.

Day 5: Takayna/Tarkine, The Great Ancient Rainforest, a Special Place of Cultural and Global Significance
Stop At: Trowutta, Trowutta, Tasmania
Today you are treated to an expert guided tour of takayna /Tarkine
The Tarkine is noted for its beauty and natural values, containing the largest area of Gondwanan cool-temperate rainforest in Australia as well as for its high concentration of Aboriginal sites and is described as “one of the world’s great archaeological regions”.
First stop is the Trowutta Arch a soaring rock structure formed by the collapse of a cave, the short walk is through spectacular rainforest typical to takayna/Tarkine.
We continue onto Lake Chisolm a calm lake hidden in the beautiful ethereal rainforest Imagine, if you will, a beautiful lush rainforest, still and peaceful with a sense of remoteness, and in the middle of it a calm lake with mirror-like reflections. The silence is profound.
From Lake Chisolm we travel to Julius River a pristine flowing river dotted with cascading waterfalls and beautiful bush flowers. A day in takayna will deepen your connection to nature and instill a lasting tranquility.

Day 6: The Edge of the World and a Premium Arthur River Day Cruise
Stop At: Edge of the World, Gardiner Point, Arthur River, Tasmania Australia
Feel the exhilaration of standing at the “Edge of the World” – the longest uninterrupted expanse of ocean on the globe. From Argentina the currents sweep unimpeded more than halfway around the planet until they hit this point.
Thundering waves crash against a rugged coastline in a dynamic landscape that is constantly being shaped by wind, fire and water, the Roaring Forties (winds) generate enormous swells which break on lichen-painted rocks at the foot of windswept dunes.
After a thrilling visit it’s off to board the vessel AR Reflections to cruise the Arthur River. We cruise 14kms to the river mouth then upstream past the Arthur and Frankland river junction before continuing on to Warra Landing. On arrival at Warra Landing you disembark and are taken on an informative guided tour enjoying another intimate rainforest experience. As one of the last truly “wild rivers” of Australia this cruise is a cherished experience and the perfect adventure to end a memorable week of touring.
