Reverse-cycle heating and air conditioning, free parking and free wireless internet are just a few of the amenities here, with all the wardrobe space you could need and, being a non-smoking property, no lingering tobacco smell from previous guests. A cot and high chair are here if you are travelling with a small child, and as well as the spacious interior, there is a furnished deck area complete with a barbecue set, so you can dine in the open air while looking out for the holiday home’s namesake in the bay, which is just a few metres away.

To flesh out the details of the cooking equipment at Whale Watcher 1, there is an oven and stove top, a microwave, a fridge and an electric kettle. Coffee-making and tea-making equipment is at your disposal, as are a number of items of cookware, cutlery and dishes. A flat-screen television comes with the pet-free house, and, for those who cannot be seen in public in a creased T-shirt, there is the all-important iron and ironing board. Luggage-storage space is also included.

The beaches of Muirs and Sandpipers are only a few minutes from Whale Watcher 1, as are a number of shops for supplies, restaurants and cafes. Coles Bay is a good location either for heading south to the Freycinet Peninsula or inland at the nearby Freycinet National Park Visitor Centre. If you want to push the boat out in a literal sense, how about a catered cruise on a luxury yacht? Other sea-based excursions involve trips on more conventional powered boats or you could fly over the peninsula on a charter flight. Quad-bike tours, wine-tasting expeditions, fresh oysters – there is something for all here.
