Taranna Cottages
Enjoy great comfort in one of these three self-contained cottages, especially if you are interested in finding out more about the region’s history or simply want to enjoy this marvellous part of Tasmania.
Two one-bedroom and one two-bedroom cottages, formerly a pair of pickers’ cottages and the stationmaster’s house, each have a comfortable lounge area complete with a real log fire, and of course a supply of logs. Your bedroom has a queen bed, or a double or single with a daybed if you are going for the two-bedroom option. Each bed has a doonah and an electric blanket. There is a bathroom with a shower, and Taranna Cottages have all the linens and towels you need for your stay.
Your fully equipped kitchen has a table-top stove and a fridge, with some having a toaster as well. You have a nice supply of tea and coffee, and the owners have also included a clock radio and a television. One of the cottages is adapted for guests in wheelchairs, and the properties can sleep between two to eight.
Parking at Taranna Cottages is free, with space even for an RV or a bus, there is a daily housekeeping service, and although there is a no-pets policy, the owners have made an exception to the no-smoking rule that is in force in the form of designated areas where guests can light up. While staying here, you can have the use of the pleasant gardens and picnic area. There is also the Tasman Historical Museum and Coffee Shop right on the doorstep.
Clifftop views, pristine beaches and the wild bush are all here in Taranna, as well as the unconventional Tasmanian Devil Unzoo – the first such wildlife venture of its kind anywhere – and the breathtaking Tasman Arch. Fishing, swimming, diving and surfing are all on the menu, or just watch the action of the local blowhole at Eaglehawk neck (a good place to indulge in seafood and ice-cream from Doo-Lishus). Port Arthur Historic Site is bookable from the staff at Taranna Cottages, and you can sample the delights of whiskey, wine and oysters as well as pick up something scented at the local lavender farm.
Situated in a rural location, this cottage is 2 mi (3.2 km) from Dart Island State Reserve and within 6 mi (10 km) of Port Arthur Lavender Farm and Long Bay Conservation Area. Eaglehawk Bay State Reserve and Stewarts Bay State Reserve are also within 6 mi (10 km).
This cottage features tour/ticket assistance, a garden, and a picnic area. Self parking is free. Other amenities include RV/bus/truck parking.
All 3 accommodations offer sitting areas, hair dryers, and free toiletries.
We loved everything about this cottage, right down to the last tea cup! Just sorry we were here for only 1 night. The best place we have stayed - warm, cosy and very welcoming. Thank you Marje and Colin!
I said I'd be back and I made it!! Just the one night with the extended family - had a great time again - thank you!! See you again some time.
Lindsay (90),Pauline (86) Stephanie & Helen thank Colin and Marje for a comfy, cosy cottage. Of particular pleasure was cooking crumpets by the coals with those quirky but oh so well designed antique cooking forks ? Helen's second visit - have just one more cottage to try out - and we will be back ? Just love this place. Cheers!
