Penguin Waterfront Escape is within walking distance of the town’s famous ‘Wild’ restaurant, which is well worth booking for as the place gets extremely popular. The seafront is on your doorstep, with Penguin Visitor Centre a minute’s walk away. Two parks with immaculately-kept flower beds, a miniature railway that is especially enchanting for young children, the Penguin Undercover Market, pristine beaches and a giant seafront penguin mascot are part of the attraction. Alternatively, hop in the car and in less than half an hour you can reach Mount Montgomery State Reserve or even the terminal for the Spirit of Tasmania cruise ship. And in case you were wondering, yes, you can see real live penguins if you come here between October and March – there are free guided tours at dusk.
