Discovery Parks – Hobart

There is of course more than one kind of cabin at Discovery Parks Hobart, so you could plump for one with a full-size fridge instead of a bar-type one, an oven, a dishwasher, air conditioning, a DVD player, barbecue equipment, an outdoor setting, a balcony and a washer and dryer for your laundry. Access for those with mobility issues has been designed into some of the cabins. One type, called the Superior Cottage, has all these in spades!

En-suite powered sites mean you can bring your camper van and still have the use of a well-kept bathroom, and there are standard powered and un-powered sites so that, even if you have nothing more than a tent with you, all the extras of Discovery Parks Hobart are still available. These include the camp kitchen, a laundry, barbecue equipment a-plenty, a kiosk, a large grassed area for whatever sports activities take your fancy, a children’s play area which has, among other things, putt-putt golf and a bouncing pillow (think inflatable trampoline).

Dogs under control may accompany their well-behaved owners, although there are some restrictions in place. Wireless internet is free of charge for guests, and the park can even be used for conferences, with a variety of facilities available on request. As you can expect, parking is free.

With so much to do here, you might lose track of the fact that you are close to myriad other attractions, with Hobart in the region of fifteen minutes away by car, on the other side of the Derwent river. So if you want to see the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens or catch a game at Blundstone Arena, you don’t even need to set a whole day aside for the journey, although you may well find yourself wanting to stay and explore this amazing city longer.
