Huon Bush Retreats
Explore Tasmania’s Huon Valley from the comfort of a cabin in a carbon-positive ecological retreat, or stay in a teepee or in your own tent or RV, where you can get close to nature on a private reserve with several kilometres of bush-walking tracks, activity itineraries and car hire, so you can find out just why this venue has won so many awards.
A different bush setting can be found with every cabin at Huon Bush Retreats, each with a queen-size bed. A trundle or a bunk bed can be added for upping the occupancy, and your cooking equipment consists of an oven, some gas hobs, a gas-powered refrigerator (yes, that really is a thing!) and various items of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans.
There is a dining table with chairs, a wood-fuelled heater, an en-suite bathroom and, outside on the deck or lawn, some more dining and relaxation furniture. You even have an outdoor bath. It is worth remembering that, with electricity coming from solar panels, there is just a 12-volt supply, but it runs the essentials.
Should you want something a little larger, there is a two-bedroom cabin called Wallaby Grassland, sleeping up to nine by adding bunks and trundles to the two queen beds it already has. This two-storey building, with an upstairs balcony, includes plenty of space for children to run around outside and can be adapted into a conference room, making Huon Bush Retreats a good choice for a function with a difference.
A tipee (that’s their spelling of ‘teepee’) contains double bed although a foam mattress may be included if you wish, with a carpeted, solid timber floor, a wood-fired heater, a power supply (12-volt, as in other parts of the retreat), a clothes line and a little covered deck outside. Guests here may make use of the same facilities as those with a camper van or tent, such as the toilet and shower block (a minute’s walk from the tipees), an outdoor bath for two and a camp kitchen. The latter has a gas range and full-size oven, lots of cooking utensils and other useful items, although there is no refrigerator. There is, however, space for a large open fire, perfect for a night’s storytelling after a day spent exploring the bush land.
You could spend all your time here enjoying the various bush walks without ever leaving the site, although you could also hire a car (the staff can arrange this) and drive around the Huon Valley. The Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, the Ida Bay Railway, Hastings Caves and Bruny Island are particularly recommended.
Situated in a regional park, this guesthouse is 1.1 mi (1.8 km) from Mount Misery and within 9 mi (15 km) of Home Hill Winery and Huon Apple & Heritage Museum. The Huon Apple and Heritage Museum and Pelverata Falls are also within 16 mi (25 km).
This smoke-free guesthouse features a 24-hour fitness center, a spa tub, and a meeting room. Self parking is free. Additionally, tour/ticket assistance, wedding services, and a garden are onsite.
