Glenbrook House and Cottage

Penguin - North

Restored early-twentieth-century charm in a delightful garden setting, you can enjoy a relaxed stay with only a handful of other guests at any one time and then head off to the more bustling seaside resort only a few kilometres away.

You have a choice of two rooms here, Wisteria or Lavender, as B&B accommodation. Alternatively, you could stay in Glenbrook Miner’s Cottage, which is fully self-contained. The bed-and-breakfast rooms feature a queen bed, luxurious linens and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. Lavender has a large bay window overlooking the gardens. You can use the dedicated guest living room and lounge, enjoying the comfortable log fire, watching the television and making use of the tea and coffee-making station and a guest fridge. On top of that there is a continental breakfast, complete with loose-leaf tea and freshly brewed coffee, included in the price of your stay.

For those staying in the cottage, you can have up to four adults and two children and if you need a cot or a high chair then it is possible to book one in advance. A queen-size bed can be found in one bedroom, along with a single and trundle, and the second has a pair of single beds. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a full-size fridge, an oven and a stove, and there are separate lounge and dining rooms, plus a veranda. There are breakfast provisions ready and waiting for you as you arrive.

Regardless of which of the options at Glenbrook House and Cottage you choose, the place is pet-friendly, but please contact the owners in advance as there are other animals on the premises (such as ducks). Parking is free, as is the wireless internet access, and laundry facilities are available, plus a hair dryer. Ask at the front desk about the use of barbecue equipment – you’ll find your hosts to be extremely friendly and helpful.

There is a permanent stream running next to the property, and the restored 1900s house and cottage have a lovely garden and a hazelnut orchard which you are free to explore. If you are a bird watcher, you’ve come to the right place. Other animals which pass by from time to time include Tasmanian devils and the occasional platypus.

The peace and seclusion of Glenbrook House and Cottage is part of the charm, but if you venture a mere three kilometres down the road you can find the cheerful seaside town of Penguin. In addition to extensive beaches that are safe for children to swim in and a huge covered market (the largest in Australia), there are flower gardens overflowing with colour and even a miniature railway running along part of the seafront. Sulphur Creek Recreation Area and Mount Montgomery State Reserve are also nearby, both under twenty minutes by car.

Situated in a rural location, this bed & breakfast is 2.4 mi (3.9 km) from Penguin Tourist Information Centre and 2.6 mi (4.1 km) from Penguin Undercover Market. Hellyers Road Distillery and Emu Valley Rhododendron Garden are also within 16 mi (25 km).

A lazy river, coffee/tea in a common area, and laundry facilities are available at this smoke-free bed & breakfast. Free continental breakfast, free WiFi in public areas, and free self parking are also provided. Other amenities include a garden and barbecue grills.

Housekeeping is not available.

Wonderful place to stay! The cottage is very clean and cosy and gave us a feeling of "home away from home".

Chris had baked some bread and muffins with homemade jam, which was a lovely surprise.

We awoke to the aroma of fresh baked bread, and served an elegant breakfast in the beautifully appointed dining room.
