It is also possible to stay in one of three heritage rooms, again individually furnished, with a queen bed or a pair of twin beds. These include the use of shared bathroom facilities, and it is quite a bathroom. As well as the attractive wooden furniture and flooring, there is a stylish claw bath in addition to the separate shower and toilet. The rooms themselves include electric blankets, televisions, heaters and equipment for making yourself a refreshing cup of tea or coffee.

Give a shout if you need an iron or ironing board, and the front-desk staff will also be happy to assist with ticket and tour booking, laundry facilities and room service. Wireless internet is available throughout the building, and the non-smoking inn also has a fine garden to relax in.

As can be expected from an inn, there is a good continental breakfast available, with a selection of cereals, juices, home-made jams, teas and coffee, all included in the price of your stay. For a surcharge, you could alternatively have a cooked breakfast.

Fitzpatrick’s Inn is a National Trust and Heritage listed property, with both a restaurant and a bar. Popular due to its combination of modern and traditional dishes, the restaurant should be booked in advance and is available for hire if you are planning a wedding or function. The bar, with its extensive display of copper and brass plate decorations, serves a selection of Tasmanian wines and beers, including some award-winners such as James Boag Premium. In the winter there is a welcoming open fire, while in the summer there is outdoor seating and the place is open to guests of the inn, as well as its restaurant and functions, only.

Westbury has a number of interesting attractions, such as the nearby Pearns Steam World with its collection of traction engines and steam rollers, Westbury Maze and also the White House, home to a number of colonial-era exhibits such as furniture, toys, cars, bicycles and a hand-crafted dolls house. Day trips within easy reach of Fitzpatrick’s Inn include Cradle Mountain, the Great Western Tiers, the amazing Liffey Falls and, just half an hour’s drive away, Launceston with its restaurants, cafes, shops and of course Cataract Gorge.
