Each of the two cottages has a single bedroom, with a queen bed and an en-suite bathroom. Here you can find a two-person spa bath and a shower, as well as free toiletries. As you can expect, bedding of the highest quality is included. The kitchenette is aimed less at professional chefs and more at those who need the basics of a full-size refrigerator, microwave oven, tea and coffee maker and an assortment of cutlery, cookware and dishes. You have a mini-bar and the ingredients to make your own continental breakfast provided by your ever-helpful hosts.

This non-smoker’s, pet-free property (an exception is made for service animals) also has the mandatory iron and ironing board, so if your holiday is not complete without that knife-like crease in your denims, have no fear. Once a week there is a housekeeping service, and the free parking is wheelchair-accessible, as is the property itself.

The living areas in Crabtree River Cottages are wonderful, with vaulted ceilings and dormer windows, bathing the place in natural light. A flat-screen television, with access to premium channels and a DVD player, gives you some entertainment indoors, although it is outdoors that you will want to be in fine weather. There is a deck area just perfect for entertainment, complete with barbecue set, overlooking the river.

Not far from this idyllic house you can find a number of excellent eateries such as My Slice Of Pie Cafe. The owners particularly recommend you pay a visit to the cider house, distillery and museum at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed, two minutes’ drive from the property, which is also popular for weddings, so Crabtree River Cottages are often a choice for couples on their wedding night. Drive a little further and you can reach the Tahune Airwalk, Cockle Creek and Hastings Cave. In just under thirty minutes you can reach Hobart, home of the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), and Hobart International Airport (HBA) is about three quarters of an hour away by car.
