A variety of diets can be accommodated with prior notification. Parking at the property is free, and there are facilities for storing your luggage as well as a house-keeping service. At least one of the rooms is suited for wheelchair users. It is possible to have an extra, fold-up, bed for a fee, and for no extra cost the staff can provide a baby bath, a cot and a high chair. They can even heat up baby food, milk or formula.

For dining, it is not only breakfast that you can get at Ashdowns of Dover Bed and Breakfast. If you give twenty-four hours’ notice, you can get an excellent packed lunch with Tasmanian cheeses, sushi rolls, home-made jams, smoked salmon, fruit, preserves and pickles. Dinner, also with advance notice, can be either a cold platter or a two-course cooked meal made from seasonally available ingredients.

As well as admiring the view from the sun room and gardens, and saying hello to the farm animals, there are plenty of ways to spend the time here. Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs are less than half an hour away by car, and under twenty minutes’ walk will take you to Esperance Bay Park and Port Esperance. There are also bike trails, Hartz Mountains National Park, plenty of bush-walking and bird-walking opportunities, as well as a number of vineyards you can visit.
