5 Day Frenchman’s Cap Guided Walk
5 days - Guided Walk PackageWe depart early from Launceston and travel southwest through scenic Tasmanian highlands to the start of the Frenchmans Cap Track. After a packed lunch at the trailhead, we begin our trek, crossing the Franklin River and gently climbing through tea tree forests with glimpses of Frenchmans Cap if weather permits. Our first day ends at the beautiful Lake Vera campsite, where a hearty meal and a trip briefing await.

From Lake Vera, we ascend steeply toward Lake Tahune, our next camp nestled beneath the towering summit of Frenchmans Cap. The climb through Barron Pass rewards us with breathtaking views of the quartzite peak rising above the wilderness. We traverse Sharlands Peak and the scenic Artichoke Valley before descending into camp, surrounded by rugged beauty.

Today we tackle the exhilarating climb to the summit of Tuynti/Frenchmans Cap, a true highlight of Tasmanian bushwalking. Though the 1.7 km ascent is challenging, the reward is panoramic views stretching across the wild southwest. After soaking in the scenery, we may explore further to Lake Nancy for a well-earned lunch with stunning views toward Mt Mary and the Franklin River. In the afternoon, we return to our cozy camp at Lake Tahune to relax and refuel.

This morning offers a second chance to summit Frenchmans Cap if weather delayed us previously. We then journey back along rugged trails through varied forests and mountain passes to the serene camp at Lake Vera. With lighter packs and renewed energy, we relish the return to this magical campsite beneath the towering White Needle and Philps Peak. Tonight, we savor our final wilderness meal and enjoy a peaceful night under the stars.

After a hearty breakfast, we pack up camp and begin our return across the stunning Loddon Plains, reflecting on the epic journey of the past five days. As we reach the trailhead, we clean our gear to prevent plant disease and board the bus for the scenic drive back to Launceston. En route, we stop for lunch and take in views of the Central Highlands and Great Lake, arriving in Launceston between 5:30 and 6:30pm. After freshening up, you’re invited to join fellow trekkers for a celebratory dinner at one of the city’s fantastic restaurants.
