Day 1:
Arrive Hobart Airport, pick up mid-size automatic rented car. Includes insurance and fees and taxes. Drive into Hobart. If Saturday, the Salamanca Market will be in full swing. Afternoon drive up Mount Wellington for views out over all of southern Tasmania.

Day 2:
Catch a ferry to MONA (Museum of New and Old Art). The Museum is spectacular. Stay for lunch among the vines at Moorilla Estate adjacent.
Ferry back to Brooke Street Pier at Salamanca Place.

Day 3:
Drive to the east of Hobart to the Tasman Peninsula and Port Arthur. The sea cliffs at Eaglehawk Neck are truly amazing. Visit Port Arthur Historic Site for the real story of Australia’s convict past.

Day 4:
Drive to Strahan on Tasmania’s Wild West Coast. Allow the full day for the drive. Stop on the way at Mt Field National Park and take the 30 minute rainforest walk to Russell Falls. Drive over the highlands to Derwent Bridge – stop for lunch at the Derwent Bridge Hotel. Visit “The Wall in the Wilderness” near Derwent Bridge and then drive on through Queenstown to Strahan.

Day 5:
Enjoy the Gordon River Wilderness Cruise. Includes lunch. Drive out to Ocean
Beach to feel the “Roaring 40s” and experience a wilderness cool temperate beach at its best.

Day 6:
Take in the Wilderness West Coast of Tassie driving from Strahan north to Cradle Mountain. Stop at Henty Dunes on the way north to enjoy sand tobogganing. Take the road east to Cradle Mountain National Park.

Day 7:
Morning walks at Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake. Then drive to the East Coast and Freycinet National Park. Stop on the way at Sheffield to see the murals, the at the cheese factory and the Honey Factory. Follow the road through the Fingal Valley and over the Elephant Pass to meet the coast north of Bicheno. Turn south and head through Bicheno to Coles Bay.

Day 8:
Take the cruise to Wineglass Bay during the morning. Spend the afternoon climbing the path to the Saddle for great views out over Wineglass Bay and the Tasman Sea. Drop in and sample the oysters at the Freycinet Marine Farm.

Day 9:
Drive south down the East Coast (about 3 hours to Hobart Airport – or depart Launceston Airport, after driving north from Freycinet).  Drop Car at Airport.

Day 1:

Arrive Launceston, pick up rental car at Airport. Includes Insurance, fees and taxes. Drive to Launceston City and visit Cataract Gorge and the downtown area.

Accommodation: Launceston

Day 2:
Take in the West of the Tamar Valley with its boutique wineries, beautiful scenery and the Platypus House ay Beauty Point. Cut through from Exeter to Deloraine and then to Elizabeth Town to visit the Ashgrove Cheese outlet. Drive onto the Alpine Plateau of Cradle Mountain.

Day 3:
Morning walks at Cradle Mountain, before heading west to the coastal town of Strahan. Stop at Henty Dunes to experience the sand and the Ocean Beach. This is the West Coast at its best.

Day 4:
Join the Gordon River Cruise and get way out into the wilderness. No roads, here. Spend the afternoon walking on the beach or taking one of the many forest walking trails.

Day 5:
The West Coast was built on timber cutting and mining. Drive to Hobart through the forests and stop at Queenstown to experience an 1800s mining town. Continue on to Derwent Bridge (stop at the Derwent Bridge for lunch), see the Wall in the Wilderness and then follow the Derwent Valley into Hobart. Stop off at Mt Field National Park for a walk in the rainforest out to Russell Falls.

Day 6:
If it is a Saturday the Salamanca Market will be going on.  During the afternoon, drive to the top of Mount Wellington for spectacular views out over all of Southern Tasmania.

Day 7:
Spend the morning at the Historic Village of Richmond. Continue up the East Coast via Buckland (stop and look at the historic Church) and Orford To Freycinet. Stop off at Spiky Bridge for some history, Kates Berry Farm for the produce and Freycinet Vineyard for nibbles and wine tasting.

Day 8:
Take the cruise to Wineglass Bay during the morning. Spend the afternoon climbing the path to the Saddle for great views out over Wineglass Bay and the Tasman Sea. Drop in and sample the oysters at the Freycinet Marine Farm.
