Discover the untamed beauty and rich history of Maria Island National Park on this immersive full-day experience. Just an hour’s drive east from Hobart followed by a 30-minute ferry crossing, this remote island sits quietly off Tasmania’s east coast and feels worlds away from the everyday. As you step ashore, you’ll be greeted by ancient sandstone cliffs, crisp white beaches, and the patter of wombats, wallabies and Cape Barren geese roaming freely.

Begin your journey at the restored convict settlement of Darlington Probation Station—a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site—where you’ll hear the stories of early explorers, whalers and convicts whose footsteps left a mark on the island. Then set out on gentle guided walks to the striking Painted Cliffs with its vivid patterned rock faces, and the dramatic Fossil Cliffs where 300-million-year-old shell fossils stretch across windswept cliff tops.

As the day unfolds you’ll immerse yourself in wildlife-rich habitat, where Tasmanian devils, wombats, pademelons and rare forty-spotted pardalotes thrive. With no cars and no shops on the island, it’s a chance to slow down, breathe deeply and soak in untouched nature. You’ll return to the mainland in the late afternoon, carrying memories of an extraordinary Tasmanian escape.
