Excellent views and, despite being on a working farm, remarkably peaceful, so if you’d like a rural getaway in a 1940s cottage, this could be just your thing, all less than an hour from Launceston Airport.
Wines for Joanie Cottage is a timber building in the middle of 140 acres of vineyards and grazing land. The bedroom has a queen bed, with plenty of blankets and also an electric blanket for the colder times of the year. You also have the use of a sofa bed in the lounge room. A shower-equipped bathroom and a kitchen are also part of the property, with the latter being supplied with a small fridge, a microwave oven, a kettle, a toaster, crockery, cutlery and wine glasses – these should come in handy as you also get a complimentary bottle of wine with your stay.
For those of you who enjoy the al-fresco dining experience, Wines for Joanie Cottage has a veranda that is furnished with an outdoor table setting, plus there is a barbecue set as, quite frankly, what Tasmanian holiday would be complete without a grill-up in the open air?
Back inside The Little Timber Cottage (the actual name of this delightful holiday home), you have a real fire in the lounge. You’ll notice the stack of ready-chopped firewood as you enter. The lounge and bedroom area are part of the same open-plan room with the kitchen making a kind of half-dividing wall between them. A flat-screen television is at your disposal, and as the walls inside are painted white, the whole place enjoys a good deal of natural light but, if you want to darken the place for any reason then you will find the windows are fitted with blinds as well.
When it comes to stocking up on provisions, all you need to do is head into either Exeter or Beaconsfield, both five minutes’ drive from the cottage. Under fifteen kilometres from the property you can also find Marion’s Vineyard and Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre, while Batman Bridge and Winter Brook Vineyard are even nearer.
Situated in Sidmouth, this cottage is 0.5 mi (0.8 km) from Swinging Gate Vineyard and 1.3 mi (2.1 km) from Moores Hill. Winter Brook Vineyard and Sidmouth Conservation Area are also within 6 mi (10 km).
