Bunk beds in a communal dormitory are the standard, although you could pay extra for a room with a double bed. There is a sink in the room, plus heating and air conditioning, while the shared bathrooms have showers. If you need laundry facilities, including an iron and ironing board, or even a hair dryer, these are also available and other practical matters such as lockers and luggage storage are taken care of too. Wireless internet and parking are free, plus there is a housekeeping service.
The Pickled Frog has plenty of games which you can play with other travellers in the communal areas, such as pool, chess, pinball machines, games consoles, an oversize version of Jenga, a television and free movies, while self catering is no problem thanks to the large and very well equipped kitchen full of all sorts of pots, pans and cooking utensils. There is a dining area in the hostel, as well as a cafe and bar serving cheap, world-class beer and cider. All over the place you can find frog-based decorations, and off to one side is a lounge area with a real, wood-burning fireplace where you can relax on a beanbag chair or a rug and where guests are welcome to bring their guitars.
As you are just a little west of the centre of Hobart, all manner of places of interest can be found within easy reach of The Pickled Frog on foot, such as Salamanca Place, the Playhouse Theatre, Hobart Town Hall and Battery Point. If you are driving you can also reach the airport in little more than a quarter of an hour. For those of you looking for a way to spend a free afternoon, there are free trips to MONA and Mount Wellington, as well as other free adventure tours. Just ask the friendly staff at the front desk.
Located in Hobart Central Business District, this hostel is within a 15-minute walk of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Salamanca Market, and Salamanca Place. Australian Army Museum Tasmania and Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts are also within 10 minutes.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. I met a ton of other backpackers and the staff was just amazing. I wish I could’ve stayed longer.
This is by far one of the best hostels based on the vibe alone. The staff are crazy chill, they organize daily trips most of the week which is great for seeing Hobart affordably and to meet people! The front lounge is sick and good for a drink. They even helped me out with some camping equipment. Definitely one of my favourite hostels.
My partner and I couldn't have been happier with this hostel. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff make you feel instantly welcome and there's all sorts of groups of people here to meet. The size of the common area is great, there's plenty of space for everyone.
