The Lodge at Tarraleah
Here’s a place where you can live like royalty, whether you are after a luxury bed-and-breakfast or booking the whole lodge, with great food on the premises as well as locally, and there is no shortage of activities you can throw yourself into, from the sedate to the most active.
You certainly get looked after here. Each room has far more than just a king-size bed. There is underfloor heating, a jetted tub in the bathroom, a selection of luxury toiletries and the use of soft, cotton bathrobes. The king beds can be split into a pair of singles if you wish. The King William suite also has a rain-head shower, a private balcony and a private lounge. There is also a mini-bar with complimentary soft drinks.
Breakfast is served in the Lodge Dining Room and is also available at Tarraleah’s Teez Cafe, which serves locally made pies, cakes and desserts. The Lodge At Tarraleah serves a splendid two-course evening dinner with all bookings, with accommodation possible for guests on special diets, provided that sufficient advance notice is given. Alternatively, with two dining areas and an impressive wine list, there is the nearby Highlander Arms.
Individual rooms can be booked for Monday to Saturday between the beginning of November and the end of April, but the entire lodge is bookable all year round. With free parking, free wireless internet, conference space, laundry equipment (including ironing equipment), housekeeping service, a wonderful garden, guided tours and the art-deco design of the place, there is something for all manner of groups – business or pleasure.
There are a number of walking routes close to The Lodge At Tarraleah, and a short drive can also take you to the intriguing wooden sculpture called The Wall In The Wilderness, still under construction but open for viewing in the process. Lake St. Clair offers ferry rides, has its own cafe and is the starting point for walks of up to six hours that take in Shadow, Forgotten Lakes or Mount Rufus. Other attractions include Tarraleah Golf Club (within walking distance), Bronte Lagoon and Clark Dam. There are also guided tours available which can be booked at the lodge, including fly-fishing courses, whiskey-tasting, wilderness kayaking and cycling trips.
Situated in Tarraleah, this luxury hotel is 0.5 mi (0.8 km) from Tarraleah Golf Club and within 32 mi (52 km) of Bronte Lagoon and The Wall in the Wilderness.
