Family-friendly and pet-friendly, this mixture of self-contained cabins, powered sites for camper vans and camp sites is just a kilometre from Strahan town centre, so if you are looking for a base from which to explore the West Coast, this should suit all wallets.
Cabins are air-conditioned and have sleeping arrangements for between two and six, with one specially adapted so that guests with wheelchairs, strollers or walkers may make full use of it. Beds range from queen-size to bunks, and there is a television, a DVD player, a stove top, a refrigerator, equipment for making tea and coffee as well as a good supply of utensils and other cookware.
The en-suite bathrooms have a shower and toiletries, and some of Strahan Beach Tourist Park’s cabins include a bar fridge, a freezer, a microwave, an oven, and Foxtel. They all include a dining table, a sofa and parking right at the door.
For those bringing a camper van or a tent, the powered and un-powered sites have access to the communal facilities, including a 24-hour, coin-operated laundry (iron and ironing board included), a TV room with its own fire pit (you can buy firewood for it at reception), a barbecue and kitchen area, a playground and of course a separate toilet and shower block, with free hot water!
Guests may make use of free DVD hire, a games room and a collection of brochures presenting the wide range of attractions close by. During the school holidays, for 2 to 3 hours Monday to Friday, there is a Fun Day Programme where you can leave your children in the care of a qualified child-care educator. This can be booked at reception. If you are bringing a pet, contact the manager in advance and arrangements can be made so that you don’t have to leave your four-legged friend behind.
Strahan beach is just a few steps from Strahan Beach Tourist Park, where there is plenty of space for children to play in safety (the beach slopes gently, so you won’t find yourself unexpectedly plunging into deep water). Sheltered barbecue facilities and a playground are also provided. You can see the penguins as part of a guided tour on Bonnet Island, take a yacht charter in Macquarie Harbour or the Gordon River, and take a steam-hauled trip 35 kilometres into the forest on the West Coast Wilderness Railway, climbing over 200 metres with the aid of a rack-and-pinion system from the late nineteenth century.
