Somercotes
These self-contained one and two-bedroom cottages have modern bathrooms, kitchen equipment and televisions while keeping the old-fashioned look, including real open fireplaces, and there’s a cherry farm on your doorstep with beautiful views of the countryside all around.
There is a queen-size bed in every one-bedroom cottage at Somercotes, while each of the two-bedroom properties has a double and two singles. The bathroom, en-suite or separate, features a shower and a hair dryer, and you have the use of a full kitchen with a small oven, hotplates, a microwave and a refrigerator.
In addition to linens, wool pillows, doonas or blankets and a full, freshly produced continental breakfast at no extra cost, guests at Somercotes have the comfort of a real open fireplace, entertainment in the form of a television with a DVD player, and access to separate laundry facilities during your stay. It is worth mentioning that in the two-bedroom cottages the bedrooms are located upstairs.
The grounds to these converted farm cottages are a pleasant place for a stroll or to enjoy a coffee outside, where there is some outdoor furniture at your disposal. If you are here for business purposes, or scouting locations for a conference or other function, you might be interested in what the owners have done to an outhouse called The Ticket Of Leave Building. It is now two conference rooms with space for up to twenty-five, with screens and stationery available, and it can be booked for working lunches or other gatherings with or without the cottages for accommodation.
It would be impossible to visit Somercotes without noticing the significance of cherries – the place is part of an orchard after all, and the produce is for sale at the farm shop. They even deliver overnight express to the whole of Australia. Fly fishers have the Macquarrie river right next door, and history buffs will enjoy exploring Campbell Town, known for its superfine wool, where you can also find some good restaurants and gift shops. Ross is quite near as well, while it only takes an hour and a half by car to reach Launceston, Hobart and Tasmania’s magnificent East Coast.
Situated on a river, this bed & breakfast is within 3 mi (5 km) of Ross Bridge, Tasmanian Wool Centre, and Ross Visitor Information Centre. Ross Female Factory is 2.9 mi (4.7 km) away.
Along with meeting rooms, this bed & breakfast has laundry facilities and tour/ticket assistance. Free full breakfast and free self parking are also provided. Other amenities include a garden and a lobby fireplace.
All 4 rooms boast fireplaces and offer kitchens and TVs. Other amenities available to guests include DVD players, refrigerators, and microwaves.
Somercotes is a must on your Tasmanian to do list. Staying in the cottages is like stepping back in time… We were made to feel very welcome during our stay – nothing was too much trouble. All in all it was an experience we will never forget – from the beautiful setting to the historic buildings and of course those beautiful fresh cherries.
