Scamander Sanctuary Holiday Park
Part-cabin, part tent, this is a holiday park with a difference as you have the facilities of indoor accommodation with the feel of camping, and in a wonderful coastal location, perfect for exploring Tasmania’s east coast.
There’s a reason this is known as ‘glamping’, a portmanteau of ‘glamour’ and ‘camping’. Strictly speaking you are in a ‘Safari Tent’, complete with a shower, sink, toilet (don’t worry, they’ve provided toilet paper) and a good deal of shelf space for your toiletries, as well as a mirror. The tent has reverse-cycle air conditioning, a television, a coffee machine (one of those pod types, complete with four coffee pods, and you can buy more from the office), a kitchenette complete with sink, an electric twin cook-top, a mini fridge, a microwave oven and sundry appliances, utensils and crockery, including the all-important kettle. A family tent has its own barbecue equipment on the deck and the couples’ tents have access to the communal, covered barbecue area. There is also a communal kitchen. Double and bunk beds in the tents have insect netting and both linens and towels are provided.
There are laundry facilities at Scamander Sanctuary Holiday Park, and also a limited housekeeping service. The site is completely non-smoking and, with the exception of service animals, has a no-pets rule. The front desk opens at eight in the morning and stays open for eleven hours. Wireless internet is available at no extra charge. Naturally, the venue is also a good place for conventional camping, and such guests are welcome to use the communal facilities, including the free parking, children’s playground, picnic area and barbecue grills.
If you’re into fishing, you can enjoy this activity on the site itself. Nearby there are cycling and hiking trails, and you can go canoeing as well as surfing. It is a great place to explore such places as Henderson Lagoon and Percy Steel Reserve, about a quarter of an hour’s drive away, then there’s Scamander River Golf Club, but basically everything from Bay of Fires and Peron Dunes to the north and Bicheno and Freycinet to the south, all of which are under an hour away by car, are well worth seeing.
Situated in Scamander, this beach campground is within 1 mi (2 km) of Steels Beach and Bike Trip Vallekilen-Tovdal. Scamander River Golf Club and Four Mile Creek Beach are also within 3 mi (5 km).
