Richmond Barracks
This is a quiet and peaceful place to stay. All three accommodation options give you plenty of space, warm in winter and cool in summer, with all the crockery and other essentials needed if you are self-catering, and just a short drive from Hobart. The garden is lovely too.
Let’s get the marching orders straight: no smoking, no pets. Right, at ease! Richmond Barracks gives you a wonderful night’s sleep in a queen bed or king-single bed, depending on which of the three accommodation choices you go for, which can range from an all-in-one bed/kitchen/lounge studio (the Cellar) to a two-storey cottage with separate bedrooms (with ensuite) and separate kitchen/dining and lounge rooms of Lady Esther Cottage. Electric blankets are provided for all.
All kitchen facilities have as a minimum a fridge, microwave oven and stovetop as well as a coffee and tea maker plus all the dishes, utensils and cookware you might need. You will also have air conditioning and heating, a flat-screen television and DVD player, free wi-fi both in the cottage and in parts of the surrounding area, a garden, a picnic area, and they’ve made sure not to forget an iron, an ironing board and a hair-dryer.
Richmond Barracks’ helpful staff may be able to offer some assistance with ticket and tour booking, although bear in mind that this property does not have a front desk. Check-in is between two and six in the afternoon. There is luggage storage, a safe for your use, and a certain level of housekeeping which is available. Parking is available in a secure, off-street location and, should you request one, you can have a continental breakfast delivered to your door!
Richmond is rich with history, and the tourist attractions of Richmond Bridge, the Old Post Office, Richmond War Memorial Oval, Old Hobart Town Model Village and Richmond Gaol (Australia’s oldest gaol) are all within a mere ten minutes’ walk. If wine and cheese are your thing, don’t forget to check out Wicked Cheese and Puddleduck Vineyard.
Located in Richmond, this cottage is within a 5-minute walk of Richmond Arms Hotel, Courthouse, and Richmond Bridge. Old Post Office and Richmond War Memorial Oval are also within 10 minutes.
