While the rooms vary in precise content, they all have a private bathroom, with the exception of one which is across the corridor, with a walk-in shower, a heated towel rail and bathrobes. Comfortable king, queen and single beds are furnished with extremely comfortable bedding, and in the Anchorage house there is a bathroom for each of the four bedrooms. These, the owners say, are for adults only, but there are also self-contained cottages suitable for families and accommodating up to four.
A large television features in each accommodation option, and in some cases you can have a bath in addition to the shower (even a double shower), an antique dresser, and guests in the four rooms in the main building have access to a veranda and a sun deck.
Mt Lyell Anchorage has free wireless internet, laundry facilities and free washing powder for guests, and there is a small amount of undercover, off-street parking in addition to the plentiful street parking locally. Luggage storage and tour assistance are both available from your friendly hosts, and not only are you free to forage for herbs and vegetables in the kitchen garden, but your stay also includes the ingredients for quite an impressive continental breakfast each morning.

For an unforgettable adventure, the West Coast Wilderness Railway will take you into the forest up an ingenious rack-and-pinion system along the river, steam-hauled! Those with an interest in maritime matters will enjoy the Galley Museum, and you can take to the water with King River Rafting, World Heritage Cruses and Gordon River Cruises. Still on boat-related matters, in nearby Strahan you can watch a performance of the family-friendly ‘The Ship That Never Was’, which, having been continuously performed since 1993, is Australia’s longest-running play. For more practical needs, Mt Lyell Anchorage is close to supermarkets, cafes and hotels so there is no shortage of dining venues.
