Giants Table and Cottages
Here they have converted eight rustic, weatherboard workers’ cottages into luxurious, self-contained holiday homes, in the heart of the wilderness and national parkland, complete with an excellent restaurant and a bar.
While there is a wide range of cottage types, all include premium-quality bedding (and all have at least one queen-size bed), towels, a private bathroom with a shower and bath, toiletries and a hair dryer, a kitchen or kitchenette, tea and coffee-making equipment, and heating. Cooking facilities include a stove top, a microwave oven, a fridge (a bar fridge in some and a full-size one in others), a toaster and, for when you have finished your culinary work, a dining setting. No stale fog of spent tobacco hangs in the air, as they are all for non-smokers, with designated smoking areas available nearby, and a cot or a high chair are available if you need them.
It is also possible to have a second bedroom, or even six in total, a television with a DVD player, an oven, a high chair, a wood heater in the lounge, and outdoor setting, a spa bath, a separate shower room, up to three toilets, a sofa bed, ceiling fans or a veranda, one of which has excellent views of the platypus ponds. Giants’ Table and Cottages can therefore accommodate between two and sixteen guests in one property, with free parking, free wireless internet, laundry facilities and housekeeping available on request.
Nearly all the properties are without stairs, and these also have wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. Pets are welcome for a fee, although this is not payable in the case of service animals. For your safety and peace of mind, there are smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in every cottage.
The Giant, in case you were wondering, is a huge tree around which the cottages are placed. Off from the main road through Maydena, the setting is peaceful and looks fantastic at any time of the year, with the river running past to the north and the mountains looming on the horizon. When you get peckish, there is restaurant on site, as well as a licensed bar. Additionally, there are facilities for holding conferences, so this may be just the place for anything from a business meeting to a residential course.
The staff at Giants’ Table and Cottages can provide you with guide books of the local area, which is so rich in things to see that many guests say they are unable to fit everything they had planned into one stay. For example, Junee Caves are a few minutes’ walk away, and if you are driving then you can reach Mount Mawson, Lake Dobson or Styx Big Tree Reserve in under forty minutes, and Marriot Falls Track Trailhead in under ten.
Situated in the mountains, this cottage is within a 10-minute walk of Junee Caves and Maydena Bike Park. Tasmanian Wilderness and Tyenna River Conservation Area are also within 2 mi (3 km).
Along with conference space, this cottage has laundry facilities and a garden. Free WiFi in public areas and free self parking are also provided. Additionally, barbecue grills, a picnic area, and a lobby fireplace are onsite.
All accommodations are individually decorated and offer DVD players and hair dryers. Guests will find kitchens with refrigerators, ovens, stovetops, and microwaves. Housekeeping is available on request.
