Two panoramic studios with a lovely view of the sea are on offer here, each with a queen-size bed and leading onto a patio and a garden with a picnic area. Rooms have an en-suite bathroom, with a shower, complimentary toiletries and a hair dryer. The kitchenette has the basics of a stove top, microwave oven, refrigerator and assortment of cookware and cutlery. Naturally, there is also equipment for making tea and coffee.
Flotsam Studio Accommodation includes a wall-mounted, flat-screen television, DVD player, free use of wireless internet, an iron and ironing board, a desk, a portable fan and heating, which includes a solid-fuel fireplace. The non-smoking, pet-free property also has a limited housekeeping service and a place for you to park at no extra cost.
By the way, for those of you who have negative associations with the term ‘flotsam’, as in ‘flotsam and jetsam’, don’t let that put you off. Flotsam Studio Accommodation is quite a modern building, of a 3.5-star standard. Some of the decorations around the building evoke the spirit of beach-combing, which seems to be the idea behind the name. The coast itself can be seen from the open-plan living area, unspoilt by any other buildings blocking the view.
The remoteness of the property is part of the attraction, but a mere fifteen minutes by car can take you to Eaglehawk Neck, and you are about half an hour from the fascinating story of Port Arthur Historic Site. Alternatively, the beautiful Seven Mile Beach takes roughly an hour to reach, and you are somewhere in the region of forty minutes from HBA Hobart International Airport.
Nestled on the beach, this Dunalley cottage is within 1 mi (2 km) of Dunalley Beach and Bellettes Bay Conservation Area. Carlisle Beach and Africa Gully Nature Reserve are also within 2 mi (3 km).
