Derwent Hideaway
A waterfront location is part of the attraction here, in a self-contained cottage built in the 1950s, with three bedrooms so up to nine plus a baby can stay, to enjoy the nearby parkland or for trips to Hobart, which is just fifteen minutes away.
The bedrooms in Derwent Hideaway include a queen, double and two single beds, with other sleeping arrangements possible with the use of a sofa bed and a drawer bed in the lounge, and a port-a-cot. There is a shower, a toilet and a handbasin in the bathroom, and the property includes a second toilet.
Your kitchen has modern equipment such as hotplates, a microwave oven and a fridge among other items (and even a small fire extinguisher), there are laundry facilities in the form of a washer and a dryer, and you have the added convenience of both wired and wireless internet plus a computer and desk. Linens, tea, coffee and various items of crockery come with the property, and just give a shout if you need a high chair.
Each of the bedrooms has a view of the river or mountains, and guests can entertain themselves with a television, DVD player and stereo. This is part of a book-swap library, so you’ll have something to read too. While pets are not allowed in the house itself, they are permitted to stay in the fully fenced pet enclosure at the rear, while in the garden, which has plenty of seating and a barbecue set, you can admire two ancient oaks and watch the river flowing past.
Parking is available near to Derwent Hideaway, and if you brought a boat with you then you can use the local yacht club’s launching ramp. There are canoes, bikes and fishing gear available for loan from the Hideaway’s owners, GPS equipment if you request it in advance, and when you venture in search of local attractions there is parkland, bowling, golf and the main road serving Southern Tasmania. This puts you easily in reach of the Cadbury factory, the world-renowned MONA (it stands for Museum of Old and New Art) and, for the sports lovers among you, the Tasmanian Hockey Centre.
Located in Austins Ferry, this vacation home is 1.1 mi (1.8 km) from Claremont House and within 3 mi (5 km) of Moorilla Estate and Museum of Old and New Art. Mount Faulkner Conservation Area and MyState Bank Arena are also within 6 mi (10 km).
