This attraction has been suspended for operation from the end of April 2013. The State Government of Tasmania is responsible for track maintenance, while Federal Hotels run the actual Railway. We hope that once issues between the Government and the operator are resolved, the West Coast Wilderness Railway will re-commence operation.
West Coast Wilderness
Railway Tour From Strahan
Imagine following the rails through the Tasmanian wilderness of the West Coast in complete comfort. Leaving twice daily, the West Coast Wilderness Railway winds its way from Strahan to Queenstown, following the route carved from the forests by the early pioneers of the 1800's. Not only an authentic, historic ride on restored steam equipment, this is a wilderness journey like no other.
Be a Part of History.
The restoration of the original ABT engine is amazing, the carriages have been brought back to life and the comfort level is well above the usual. It took years to restore the track, but it now safely follows the original route that was used to carry ore and timber from the mines and forests inland to Strahan for shipping.
This is a great day out.
