Pavilions, Berriedale

Voted One of Tasmania's Best Attractions,
Culture, Art, Food, Wine and Views.

In the 1950's, Claudio Alcorso, a migrant from Italy, established his house, a vineyard and a small winery on the Berriedale Peninsula, 12Km (8mi) north of Hobart. The vineyard is still there as Moorilla Estate, producing excellent cool climate whites and reds of some distinction - a restaurant has been added. In 2002, David Walsh, a Tasmanian self-made millionaire, bought the property and established the first Museum of Old and New Art - MONA - as a cultural extension of the wine and food business. The new, impressive MONA was opened in January 2011 and is the largest privately funded museum in Australia. Built into the cliffs of the Peninsula, it is rated as one of Tasmania's best cultural attractions.

Breathtaking Accommodation in the Vineyards.
The MONA Pavilions offer views of the river and proximity to the restaurant and vineyards. They are suitable for families or more than two guests per Pavilion, and have a kitchenette and dining area for meal preparation. You do need to be aware that MONA is about a 15 minute drive from downtown Hobart, Salamanca Place, Battery Point and the Waterfront, but if you are looking for somewhere with views and character, MONA is ideal.
