What to Look for in Hobart AccommodationHobart is a city that has grown up around the Waterfront, centering on Salamanca Place and the dock area. The Historic Battery Point area runs from Salamanca Place and is an area of 1800's cottages, terraces and houses lining winding, narrow streets that make you feel as though you are experiencing a bygone age. |
Hobart Hotels and Accommodation
Accommodation in Battery Point is usually historic buildings that have been refurbished and are of varying quality levels. One of the best examples is Lenna of Hobart, a finely restored colonial mansion with accommodation units in a new block adjacent. For an unusual experience look at the Somerset on the Pier Apartments Hobart, an apartment hotel built into one of the old wharves on the waterfront.
On the Eastern side of the dock area is the outstanding Henry Jones Art Hotel, Hobart, this being built into the original stone buildings housing the Henry Jones IXL Jam Factory of 150 years ago.
For more conventional and less expensive hotels, we suggest you look at the Blue Hills Motel, Hobart, situated on the edge of Battery Point and within walking distance of most attractions. Another budget but well located hotel is the Leisure Inn Hobart Macquarie, located a short walk through St Davids Park to Salamanca Place.

Always worth considering is the Grand Chancellor Hotel, Hobart, very modern and located right on the docks. Select a Harbour View Room for the best aspect out onto the Docks Precinct and the Derwent River.
Our suggestion is that you concentrate your search for Hobart hotels and accommodation on anywhere within a kilometer of the City Centre. This will put you within easy walking walking distance of all the waterfront attractions, restaurants, shops and the style that is a part of Hobart life. If staying at the Casino, or at MONA, expect to be a cab ride from the city.
